ROFWAC or "Retired Old Friends Wednesday Afternoon Club" was formed around 2008 to encourage and promote midweek racing of radio controlled yachts on the lake in Wilton Park, Batley.in West Yorkshire. Welcome to our new web site rolled over from the original at www.rofwac2.moonfruit.com Many thanks to our original Web Master Colin for getting us off the ground with his excellent site and for updating all the results on a week by week basis.
We have between 12 and 20 members racing every Wednesday come rain hail or shine. (We have been known to break the ice to permit racing in winter.)
As of September 2018 we race four classes of yacht. First is the JIF which is a cheap to make and sail RG65 design which we have found to be particularly suited to our lake. Next comes our clubs experimental 31" design. Here, anything goes providing the yacht is wind powered, has a single hull and no longer than 31". Many and varied are the designs witnessed and which provide for some exciting racing. There's also a growing Dragon Force fleet and a pure RG65 class. As an aside, we have found that a Dragon equipped with a sail larger than the "A" rig supplied with the kit works well in light winds. There's no restriction on using the bigger "A+" rig under OUR rules so effectively a Dragon equipped with several rigs can be competitive in all our events but one - the JIF.
We operate an excellent handicap system which is designed to level the playing field and enable anyone competing to win. We also run a special race each week for beginners and once each month we raise money for a local charity by hosting an open race against a £0.50 entry fee. We're delighted to have raised over £1600 for the local blind school since we commenced operation.
We welcome anyone to visit us any Wednesday and join in the fun. Sailing starts at around noon with the first race underway at 1:00pm .There are no charges to come along and ""have a go."
